Every doll needs a red carpet entrance and with that, red velvet ropes are a must! In this DIY, we will show you how to make your own for all of those important events and grand openings that your dolls will attend. Here’s what I came up with:
the bits & pieces
Here’s what you will need:
- Wooden Dowels
- Gold Acrylic craft paint
- Wood craft discs
- Round wood beads
- Eye Screws
- Red velvet ribbon
- Cording
- Hot glue gun
- Craft Saw
- Screwdriver or hand drill
- Needle
- Invisible thread or thread to match the velvet ribbon
- Small jewelry pliers
the steps
The first step is to cut the wooden dowel’s down to 6″ lengths. Hot glue the wood craft discs and wood beads to each end of the dowels. Once each of the stands are set, paint them gold and let dry.
After the velvet rope stands have been painted and dried. Next, you will want to drill (using a mini drill bit on your drill or using a hand drill) a small hole about 1/4 inch below the bead top (this is for the eye screws).
Next screw the eye screws into the hole that you created.
Set these aside for now.
Prepare your cording by deciding how long you want your ropes to be. Make sure there is a nice swag to each rope. Before you trim your cording, be sure to tape the edges so that it wont fray.
Next thread your needle with the clear or matching thread and knot the end. I don’t recommend trimming the velvet ribbon on both sides until you are sure of the length you will need. Fold one end of the ribbon and wrap it around the cord securing it with your fingers. Thread the needle and thread through the top of the fold (as seen in the image).
Sew the edges together using whatever style stitch works best for you.
Continue sewing the edges together keeping the ribbon tightly wrapped around the cording. Once you reach the end, snip the end of the ribbon about an inch past the cording and fold over to the inside of the ribbon tube. Finish stitching it and knot the end.
Next you will need to sew on and secure the large jump rings to each end. Loop the stitches 4-5 times until the jump ring seems secure. Knot the stitches and clip the excess thread.
Once you have secured the jump rings, connect them to the eye screws on each stand (use pliers to open and close the opening). Now you have a pair of red velvet ropes ready for the red carpet. Get ready for the Paparazzi!
Be prepared for all of the camera flashes! Say cheese!
A la prochaine!
