Grab your glue guns and raid your trash for some fun accessories! I wanted to come up with a few easy DIY projects that don’t require you to have stockpiles of craft supplies at home. I know not everyone has as much on hand as I do and we all need to keep our hands busy during this crazy time. I raided my junk drawer, recycling, and “pre” trash items to see what could be created out of basic household items.
You may have supplies that might make some of these crafts easier, but I wanted to make sure I only used items other than glue and paint that you might find around the house.
For all or most of these crafts, you will need:
- Scissors
- Utility Knife
- Hot Glue Gun
- Craft Glue or E6000
- Craft Paint
Disclaimer: These DIY’s may contain sharp objects/tools and hot glue. Please use adult supervision if under age.
Cup/Planter holder
Chap stick and toothpaste lids make great containers. Add a craft stick and toothpicks and you have a decorative and useful object.
Paint or keep your stand natural depending on the look you want.
Desk Accessories
We created a desk set here using Barbie Fashionista packaging and disposable razor covers (plus a label maker which is optional).
File Folders
Mail Organizer
Desk Mat
Pencil/Pen Cup
Here we used the end of a Brother label maker tape to adorn a chair leg cover or a chap stick lid.
Decorative Key Tray
We used a contact lens container to create an artistic key holder.
Storage Baskets
Bottle caps and household twine make great mini baskets for your shelves.
Carton Planters
Here we used an egg carton to cut out some natural pots for starting seedling or herbs.
We are using used coffee grounds for dirt here.
Plant Stand
This is made from a pizza protector and a beauty product lid.
Fill the lid with hot glue and allow to dry, then add the same coffee and glue mixture from above for your dirt.
Vintage Style Fan
A simple button and cap to on the go fruit sauce make a great fan!
Pet Bowls and Mats
We used old contact lens cases and drawer liner to create these cute pet bowls.

I love them! Making recycled doll things is my obsession. These are great little projects! Time to sort through my collection of recycled odds and ends.
